Just pips the equivalent garmin.

Good kit. Yes expensive with the 1.25,000 mapping extra, but no more than equivalent garmin. After years of the excellent Garmin etrex range, I wanted to upgrade to full OS 1.25000 mapping. I plumped for this one based on a review pointing out how the Garmin touch screen activated on your pocket. The operating keys and the large clear screen are it's biggest assets. Easily operated with thick gloves on in a freezing environment, an absolute life saver when you daren't remove gloves. That is the clincher for me. Downside. You can't change the size of, or change the data boxes on the data page, which is possible with Garmin, although it is possible to change the data boxes in the mapping screen. A minor issue. You can't have seperate units for distance and altitude, as you can with garmin. Good 8 hour + battery life which you can change for ordinary batteries (shorter life) if this runs out. Before buying I would closely compare with the Garmin 64 which does have buttons to operate but a smaller screen. It's also difficult to see the screen in bright daylight, not easy when cycling as you can't quickly angle the screen. Not possible to turn off map detail and just see the route, which would help in bright sunshine as the intricate map detail can mask the route. Poor screen cover that easily fractures if you try and remove quickly or apply without extreme care. The waterproofing was fine on single days out, but when used over multiple days and kept in damp tent overnight the screen listed inside which was a pain.
