Swedish by birth; graduate of Trinity College and now resident in London
Town; Emilia Martensson's voice is an absolutely delightful instrument and
her new album 'Ana', which she has dedicated to her Grandparents, is an
enchanting musical journey which transcends its jazzy foundations and reaches
back to something almost neo-classical in form and ambience. This has much
to do with the ensemble who accompany her (Barry Green's mercurial piano
and Sam Lasserson's fluid double bass are exemplary throughout) augmented
beautifully, here and there, by a small but perfectly formed string section.

At the end of the day, though, it's all about the voice and Ms Martensson's
pure tone, effortless delivery, impressive range and impeccable diction are
truly the stuff of dreams. There are ten tracks in the collection and I seem to
have found something to love in all of them; from the rolling limpid opening number
'Harvest Moon' (a composition by Jamie Doe); through her own sublime invention
'Ana' (and its brief but haunting reprise) with its touching reflections about her
Grandmother; the tender take on Paul Simon's 'Everything Put Together Falls
Apart' and the shimmering re-imagining of Joe Henderson's 'Black Narcissus Music',
we are never less than certain that this is an artist wholly in control of her craft.

Pure Class!

Highly Recommended.
