A Fresh, zesty and sweet powerhouse that will last hours...
on 31 July 2017
This wasn't a fragrance i would have known about if it wasn't for a few professional reviewers on YouTube. Consistently it kept coming up as a fresh and zesty modern day alternative to any number of fragrances from any number of companies. "Fresh" is the new buzzword in the fragrance world with women preferring those lighter fresher scents over the dark and heavy fragrances we all possibly own in our collection. I myself have been collecting new fragrances for over a year or two now and have built up a fair collection.
This one Aqva Amara by Bulgari, is a flanker to the original "Aqva Marine" released in 2008. Amara has been out now for over 3 years but has never been one to appear on the radar for me. A flanker is a fragrance which takes the original DNA of a fragrance and then adds its own distinctive twist. Amara is available in Eau de Toilette concentration only but can be bought in 75ml or 100ml bottle sizes.
Firstly down to presentation, The box is nothing special but on a par with anything from any other brand, ensure that the serial number on the box matches up to the number on the bottle! Speaking of the bottle, it is gorgeous, shapes like a pebble it doesn't stand up and simply lies flat on any surface. The sprayer is built in to the top so there is no cover to remove. The sprayer is adequate, dispersing sufficient amount of juice but it doesn't travel very far so you may have to hold the bottle closer to your skin than normal, it's certainly not the worst i've come across and does the job required so won't be knocking any stars off for that.
After all it's the juice inside the bottle why you buy it and not because of the bottle it comes in. So finally down to my notes. Firstly i spray all scents the same way, one spray either side of the neck, one at the back of the neck and one on the inside of my left arm.
Top note/Opening (what you smell in the first 10 minutes after spraying and before it dries):
Incredibly fresh, almost sea fresh with lots of citrus, mostly Orange and possibly some Bergamot thrown in too. I know there isn't any incense in this fragrance but you would wear blind that there was, possibly the blend of fresh notes and orange has created that illusion. You can immediately tell that this is a strong fragrance even after just one spray, it's ability to project is very impressive, a good arms lengths distance easily.
1-7 Hours after spraying:
This is a beast for longevity, it was projecting incredibly well even after 7 hours. There isn't much development so what you smell in the opening seems to remain constant although it does settle down after the first hour and it actually needs to given how strong it is when you first apply it. Very reminiscent of Dior Sauvage in many respects at the 3-6 hour period, i manged to get a few compliments from women in the pub and my girlfriend certainly approves of the dry down.
7 hours +:
After 7 hours this fragrance begins to fade into a skin scent, depending on how much you sprayed and naturally depending on your own skin as they all react differently with different people! When it does become a skin scent you're left with the orange accord but it did last on my skin until the next morning!
VERDICT: Aqva Amara is a two dimensional fragrance and lacks sufficient component parts to make it a show stopping scent but it has been incredibly well blended and fits the criteria of being fresh and sweet at the same time, not to mention being a strong performer in both the projection and sillage departments, people around you will notice this fragrance and i can see it being a great choice as a daytime/summer scent to be worn to casual affairs, a bit too sweet for work and lacks the depth in the coldness of the winter months. The presentation is gorgeous and this fragrance represents excellent value for money especially when you factor in that Dior Sauvage (current top selling fragrance for men worldwide) easily costs twice the price and isn't that much better in my honest and humble opinion. Part of the reason why Aqva Amara isn't a big seller is Bulgari don't have the same advertising budget that Dior have and it isn't readily available in all fragrance outlets, indeed apart from seeing this once at Selfridges i believe Amazon is one of the few places you can buy it.
For £28 which is the price i paid for the 100ml bottle, you are getting a quality, well made fragrance which is different enough so you'll stand out from the other fresh scents currently on the market like Paco Rabanne Invictus Aqua or Dior Sauvage both of which are too popular for their own good. When i wear a fragrance i want to stand out from the crowd or at least let the lady in my life know i'm wearing something different than the other guys in the room. If you like fresh scents and want to try something different then i highly recommend you try this! RECOMMENDED!
