TOP 100 REVIEWERVINE VOICEon 12 March 2013
CD1 is of the album Ghost Stories for Young People, Golden Records LP89 and is remembered with great affection by many grown ups as they had this bought for them when a child and having followed Hitchcock's instructions on the records got frightened and spooked by some of the stories. The recording has 6 stories with introductions by Hitch and all the stories were written by John Allen and narrated by him also. the running time for this LP transfer is approx 43 minutes and the sound is excellent. I suppose this is spooky fun but it was all part of a public persona that Hitchcock developed and used to great effect.

CD2 is the earlier of the 2 recordings and is Music to be Murdered By. There are 10 tracks with Hitchcock providing an introduction that can be ghoulish or deadpan sometimes frightening but always entertaining. The music is arranged by Jeff Alexander in a style to fit the title of the album and the associations with Hitchcock and so be warned you may just be settling into a familiar tune when thud, judder, screech comes into the arrangement. the album was released in 1958 around the time of Season 3 of Alfred Hitchcock presents and so includes the theme from that show on the LP. The running time is approx 33 minutes. Play this one first and then CD1 as you will be in a good mood to enjoy the stories.

The packaging of this set is most suitable for it has dark colour tones and 5 images of Hitchcock and reproductions of the original album covers. The liner notes are by Brian Parks and like all these One Day Music compilations they are produced by Glenn Gretlund. Value wise a bargain.

The listed tracks are not the correct ones. The original albums contained orchestral tracks. Thie tracks here surely belong to a Greatest Hits Album.
