3.5 Stars Really..
on 9 May 2014
saw the 2 previous reviews on here and as they both were quite contrasting and extremely vague, i thought i would give a quick review with slightly more depth.
First of all, i am a massive Defected fan.
Love the majority of the tracks they release, love their club nights and really enjoy their podcasts to know about all the upcoming music.
That said, i was very disappointed with this album on first listen. i listened to each cd on in my car on the way to and from work.
can't put my finger on why that was, but some albums are like that. just require a few listens before you get into them
now 4 or 5 listens later i can say the following.
CD2 (listening to right now actually) is a very relaxing deep house affair. nothing to crazy to get you dancing around, but a very very sophisticated affair of beats
CD3 (my personal favourite) is much more club orientated. some very solid, heavy tracks to get you grooving. an excellent mix indeed!
but CD is such a flop in my eyes. it just doesn't flow …the first 4 or 5 tracks skip from techy house back to deep house and it just doesn't make sense. it seems to settle down around track 6 onwards, but you'd have thought being as it was CD1 this should be the stellar mix all the way through. it just isn't though
so in summary, a very mixed bag, and as a result of that I'm awarding it 3.5 stars
