Usual high levels of "guitar ship" by Steve and flute work by Hackett the younger. Cant imagine how long this version took to put together. Call me old fashioned but Satie' music is still for the piano. However buy this album its bloody good.
The music on this album is excellent. Gymnopedies No.1 is one of my favourite pieces of music and I have many versions of it, this version ranks along side the best. I first heard the piece at the 'Light Fantastic' show back in the late 70's. It was played by Rod Argent, I purchased the single (45rpm) was I thought was really good, however, by accident I later played it at 33rpm. At that speed it was stunning (and much closer to the classical tempo). The rest of the Satie songs on this album are very well played. If you can get hold of this buy it. Congratulations to the Hackett brothers for a superb recording
This beautiful CD features French composer Erik Satie’s thoughtful and deceptively simple works for solo piano, here refreshingly arranged for the first time for flute and classical guitar. Sketches of Satie is the creation of two very talented musicians: Flautist John Hackett; and the world-renowned guitarist Steve Hackett. Their album successfully bridges the genres of classical and relaxation music, with many blissful and serene pieces including the universally popular Trois Gymnopédies; six wistful Gnossiennes; and the lesser-known – but equally evocative – Nocturnes. A tender and truly original interpretation of Satie’s music, making this a wonderful album for relaxing listening and classical fans alike.
