TOP 500 REVIEWERon 28 September 2015
Dixie, a young Welsh postie with golden ears when it comes to music, has discovered the best unsigned band on-line. That's all it takes for him to give up his job , leave South Wales with his girlfriend Shell, move to London, track down the band and offer to manage them. They cheerfully agree with a beer and a handshake. Dixie then sets about promoting them, making contact with a mate from home already working in music management, trying to arrange an iconic gig and sending out cassettes (for the retro value) to raise interest in them.

The film's heart is in the right place, but doesn't convince as really funny or well observed. There are a lot of contrived obstacles thrown in Dixie's way that mean he keeps having to run from one end of the country to other to keep the band together while trying to get them signed up. I enjoyed the soundtrack which included a lot of established bands, but there was nothing about the fictional band, other than Dixie's say so, that merited their potential as the best new band. If you suspend your disbelief long enough to accept that they are, that then begs the question, what's the point of Dixie, if everyone already loves them on-line, queues up to see them and companies are fighting to sign them. If it was a better or funnier film, you probably wouldn't stop to ask those questions.

Amiable but not great.

I'm confused at reading the other inexplicably positive reviews for this film. It's really very poor and, aside from a few surprising cameo appearances, cannot be commended. In a nutshell this film is old fashioned, cheesy and unfunny. If that's your thing then fill your boots!

This is a great underground film. If you lived through or have an interest in the 'Mod' movement you will relate to this film. Also if you enjoy the concept of Trainspotting, Twin Town or other similar stories this will appeal to you. The cast is a real selection of new comers and well established players and they mix well to form a seamless performance which flows nicely along. There's an innocence to the film which I liked in the sense that nothing horrible or terrible happens and there's an uplifting element to it all. The highlight is the music closely followed by the cameo's.

This is a really good, fun film. Well made and acted, and superb characters that are well acted. Well worth a watch.

I loved the original short clips produced on youtube a few years ago. The cameos, humour and script was just right. Sadly the film didn't live up to these early original clips. The reworked sections based upon these clips were poor and the film cheesy.

For me the best early clip joked on about Eddie Pillar as Mr Secret Affair... where was the man himself in the film?

Wanted to love it, but let down..... sorry.

This is one of those watch, then watch again movies. It becomes increasingly poignant as venues / Soho disappear and the grassroots and major music industry echo this tale in multiple variations.
