This is a further towering collection by Harry Christophers and The Sixteen. The musicians revisit the Tudor period with compositions opening with John Sheppard's 'Gaude, gaude, gaude Maria', a glorious beginning that sets the tone for the works that follow including those of Richard Davy and William Mundy. This is a superlative choral work by a consistently perfect and enthralling group. The accompanying notes are informative providing the historical background of the contents with the lyrics as sung, alongside their translation. A sheer delight and highly recommended.
The Sixteen are still sounding stunning. All the tracks are brilliantly performed, and the sound quality is beautiful. The recording contains music written by Tudor composers John Sheppard, William Mundy and Richard Davy.
The music itself is really very relaxing. A great CD for putting on at the end of a long day!
I would recommend this album.
