One of the best albums ever recorded, period.

Ornette Coleman is just the best and this quartet is the band he make his most highly regarded albums with. It's absolutely fabulous. I give it 4 stars only because I'd buy Change of the Century before I'd buy this one. That said, a great virtue of this recording is that Charlie Haden's bass is brought right up in the mix and he and Ed Blackwell kick the whole thing off with one of the nerviest grooves of all time. It also has the coolest cover art of any album ever.
If you don't know Coleman's work ,go for Change of the Century because the first track has the bass line for Ian Dury's Sex and Drugs and Rock n Roll in it and is a brilliant advert for Coleman's style. If you do know the man, snap this up. You'll adore it.
