Released in 1968, 'Something Happening' is a significant album as it was the Raiders' first LP to be entirely composed & produced by vocalist Mark Lindsay following Terry Melcher's departure from the producer's chair. By this time the group had left their garage/r&b roots behind them in the pursuit of pop perfection - with not inconsiderable effect. The bulk of this album sees the Raiders pursue a pure, sun-kissed guitar-pop direction allied to some dreamy, psychedelic touches (not unlike some of the tracks on their 1967 LP 'Revolution!'). The album achieves a nice blend as the band veer from guitar-driven pop to teen-oriented bubblegum with melodies that will stick in your head, never to depart. It would be no exaggeration to say that 'Something Happening' is something of long forgotten '60s pop gem from a band that created a back catalouge that, pound for pound, is easily up there with any of the great names from pop's 'golden age'. The core values of '60s pop find free reign here - highly recommended.
