Decent Episode, Incredible Performance.

As a send-off for Matt Smith, "The Time of The Doctor" works well; it ties up all the loose ends his series' arcs left, and answers any questions his Doctor's tenure might have left, while keeping the answers current. The episode also makes the timing of the answers make sense i.e we find out where the Silence come from because of the results of The Day of The Doctor. In this way, it works within the continuity.
Unfortunately, beyond ticking off all the arc boxes, it does little as an adventure - Once The Doctor arrives in Christmas Town, he stays, protecting it for the rest of the episode. This gives us as an audience little to look forward to. However, it almost seems worth it for Matt's regeneration scene, in which his stellar acting shines through, and we really see what he is capable of as an actor. It's only a pity the rest of the episode feels so formulaic. Thankfully, Matt's ever-endearing charm, humour, and zest for the role keep the story engaging and enjoyable (as well as his ability to turn on a dime and become the ancient Timelord we know him to be). Not the best Christmas episode, but a good showcase for Matt's Doctor to end on.
