Some great extended reinterpretations to follow on from "Further Down The Spiral" EP.

Some really good moments, but then some not so good! I really like their reinterpretation of "Gave Up" and the 2 mixes of "Eraser" are more different than the Amazon samples would indicate (the Baby Alarm mix is far more dubby with some loops of hard percussion). "The Downward Spiral" focuses more on dub sections and "everything's blue/mushroom blue" lines, which I have only heard snippets of before on bootleg releases, so new territory there.
One low point for me was the sombre keyboards in the first part of "Closer", which clash completely key-wise with the vocals and various samples! So much so that that may be why this 'fuller' version didn't make the "Further Down.." EP at the time. It is still a good longer version once they fade from the mix, with extra vocal treatments and drop-outs, so doesn't seem like the previously released remix with just 2 minutes of the same bolted on!
Very oddly the meagre credits mention Peter and Danny, as creating the tracks, but no credit to Trent atall (or anyone else who may have helped with the original songs)....hmmm.
I did initially steer clear of this release as it felt like it was only semi-official, but managing to pick up a new sealed vinyl copy in a local sale I am very pleasantly surprised at the pressing quality (very clean, if mastered a little murkily in places for my taste) and most of the material on show. Yes, I agree its pushing it to call it an LP, as with only 5 tracks (1 song remixed twice, taking up one side) it's really an EP - many 12" singles are similar length these days, and at a much lower price.
However if you liked "Further Down..." then this will definitely appeal, and I found spotting the samples used later by Coil in their final albums (and even Electric Sewer Age's "Bad White Corpuscle" project - aka Danny Hyde) quite enjoyable, rather than an annoyance. Sort of like family friends, or pretty strange relatives!
Nice to have a glossy picture inner-sleeve too.
