A very good, insightful, informative account of an often overlooked aspect of The Great War. Details the fortitude and tenacity of these brave women, and, sadly the poor conditions in which they served, and cared for our Servicemen.

Much as it hurts me to say it about any book dealing with The Great War this one bored me. About a third into the book I had switched off. Many of the VAD's came from privileged backgrounds and I believe that the author of this book tended to see her nursing service as an adventure rather than a calling. I would have preferred to hear more about the soldiers, their wounds, their treatment, their personal stories etc than about flower gathering and concert parties. If you want a more factual account of a nurses life during WW1 I believe that "A Nurse At The Front" by Sister Edith Appleton is a far better read.

Loved it, although I had to look the meaning of some words up. I'm not familiar with Army Jargon.

A flowery style of writing that did not flow well. Some interesting facts but not a good read. There are better accounts of life as a wartime nurse.
