Sarah Vaughan, The Mercury Recordings 1954-1960
NOT3CD144

This new 75 track compilation gathers recordings from the Mercury years. The running times for this new 3CD set are CD1 76.15; CD2 76.59 & CD3 72.01. This really is a wonderful collection of in the main Sarah Vaughan performances with the addition of some delectable duets with Billy Eckstine. The sound transfers are excellent. The liner notes are by Helen Akitt. Included are 4 photo images of SV and years of recording/composer credits plus the original album numbers.

My favourites from the 75 songs include That Old Black Magic; My Heart Stood Still; There's No You; Last Night When We Were Young; It Never Entered My Mind & That's All.

Without doubt, Sarah Vaughan is up there with the best of the female vocalists of her generation.
I say vocalist and not singer because the range of her voice is indeed superb.

There is an operatic quality to Miss Vaughans voice that would not have been out of place in any opera house anywhere in the world.

This album is well worth buying, as is any album by this great vocalist.
You will not be dissapointed.
