Great start but then just ok
on 23 November 2016
I'd heard loads of great things about this book and the start of it promised to deliver this: jilted bride arrested for crashing a camper van in Ireland. But then it just didn't quite meet expectations. The protagonist ends up staying in the area where she crashed the camper and working on an oyster farm despite being scared of the water but we never get to really explore why she's putting herself through this when she could leave and start afresh somewhere without loads of water. There are lots of details about oysters that slow the story and quite a few cliched characters.
Overall, It's an ok book. I was curious as to how it would end and I cared enough to continue reading, but it felt like there were gaps that could have been explored more, possibly by expending some of the less interesting oyster farming information. But that's just my opinion and clearly loads of people loved this. It would be a boring world if we all liked exactly the same thing.
