First off, this film is simply a repackage of the 2005 film Blood of Beasts. The box are for this copy of the DVD has nothing to do with the film, if you want to get a better idea of what this film looks like look at the box art for Blood of Beasts. This film is less of a historical epic and more of a sword and sandal film with a feel similar to the 90s TV series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. The sets and props are quite impressive for a film with such an obviously low budget although the acting is sub-par and the fight scenes a little lack lustre.

Would I advise you to get this film? If you enjoy cheesy acting and like Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, then probably not. If you enjoy historical action films like Iron Clad or Kingdom of Heaven, then defiantly not.

This 2003 DVD [I think it was re-released in 2005]comes with no real features, just the film trailer, scene selection and 3 other film trailers. It's title suggests a typical Viking goes a raiding, raping and pillaging film, but it isn't. It's more your Beauty and the Beast meets the Longships come Beowulf. The plot is simple, spoilt arrogant boy fancies Princess, but she's in love with another. Skip 3 years and the boyfriend has disappeared on an island cursed by one of Odins beasts. Arrogant lad says he'll kill said beast in exchange for the reluctant Princess as his bride so ill dad agrees to make the boy his heir.
Needles to say things don't go exactly to plan. Amidst all the accusations of cowardice, it's the Princess and her girl friend who set off to the rescue -in a princess Leia feet first kind of approach.
The first part runs like a typical low budget 'B' movie with dodgy script, similar acting and a sound level that fades in and out, but by the middle your sucked into the good detail on the props, ship and general scenics and the weak plot begins to grow on you. Some special effects are decidedly dodgy, but overall the film is quite watchable. The end though can be a real tearjerker for the sentimental amongst us errrr hmmm.....
Despite everything this shoddy work still merits a good **** rating for its entertainment value and detail to the period and will appeal to those who enjoy cheesy programmes like Hurcules:the legendary journeys, Zena Warrior Princess etc. If you want big historical blockbusters like The Longships, Sparticus, Kingdom of Heaven, then look elsewhere .

Film had no special effects. Low budget production. terrible acting. Best bit of the film was pulling it out of the dvd player. Even the trailers to their other films were shockingly bad. Cover looks good and the title sounds epic but thats where it sadly ends. If you want to see a good viking dvd get pathfinder or buy the Vikings season 1 box set.

This is essentially the Beauty & the Beast story, but with vikings instead, however, it is a severely bad movie overall, the acting is terrible, the effects lackluster and the disc itself, well not much can be said about it, Menu, Trailer, Movie... yeh, that's it, oh, other than the cover is extremely misleading as mentioned by previous reviewer.

Now normally this next bit is know as a 'spoiler', but in this case, it's more correct to call it a savior: bad guy dies, monster lives and returned to his normal human self, and she, the love interest, dies, there, you have now been saved from spending any money on this movie ;)

Shame the picture on the front of the DVD has nothing to do with the film, poor story based on beauty and the beast. Poor acting, poor Direction and poor costumes.
