It works, but at a compromise
1 November 2016
As per the title, it works but has some compromises.
I have mixed feelings about this Gimbal but I am keeping it because of the price. I have not tried the £50 Gimbals as after reading the reviews on here and some youtube vids, this one I believed it would be better.
The first GH700 I received was finished off to a very poor standard, see grinding/filing marks under the power coating in the image attached. It was also missing the hole required to loosen the head from the tripod. I emailed MOVO about this and they said to return it to Amazon as the hole should be there. I am going to stop there on this first version I received.
GH700 #2 is certainly finished off to a better standard and the hole in the base part to help get some leverage when loosening it from the Tripod is present.
The large Arca plate that is supplied in the box is well made and it fits the mounting bracket well. It is also nice and long so has plenty of adjustment to balance the camera and various lenses. A small screw is place at each end to prevent the camera dropping out when positioning it.
The actual 'arm' piece is made of mild steel, it is heavy and sturdy. I can still see filing/grinding marks from the production process but it is much better than the previous one.
Movement is a little uneven in stiffness/resistance when rotating left/right, however the action is smooth and I dont see/notice any mechanical play or knocking when rotating it.
The rocking motion is also smooth when loosened off. There is however, at the fully loose position upward play in the shaft/bolt. This is reduced the tighter you turn the knob, so can be almost taken out but there is a fair bit of resistance in the motion then.
Both tightening knobs are captive so do not fall out when loosened off. Images showing my camera + 100-400mm lens fitted.
