Snowbound with a stranger

This book didn't live up to expectations - I quite enjoyed the first couple of chapters before I downloaded it. I found the characters not very likable for one. Jamie is supposed to be different from the horrible Douglas, yet he is one dimensional, not funny at all (he is supposed to be) and ultimately a rather annoying and not very endearing flake. There are far too many coincidences in the book where the main characters meet up, by just happening to be there at the same time. Mind you as Jamie is such a flake, if it wasn't for that they wouldn't see each other at all. Jamie has a tendency to ignore Megan's text's and not return her calls and leave her feeling dejected and unsure. Not sure that that is any kind of a man to aspire to winning over, and not a recipe for long lasting happiness surely? Megan on the other hand, is short tempered, whiney and humourless, yet Jamie tells her she is clever, beautiful and funny I believe. No evidence for this though, as she is tetchy and snappy most of the time. She doesn't do irony and gets annoyed at the slightest thing. So no not very loveable characters and not what we are told they are. I didn't much enjoy knowing either of them.
The story is fairly pedestrian but potentially a cute one, albeit done before. It seemed to lose its way though. The characters shut up together have nothing else to do and think about, apart from food. The food is a focal point throughout the book and it all gets rather monotonous. It is all far from appetising, including when they have plenty of access to it and could eat delicious food. However, it often seems that it is the only topic of conversation between the two. I got tired of hearing about what they were eating or going to be eating!
I galloped through the book, its an easy read which doesn't need much attention paid to it. I have read much worse but the characterisation let it down, as well as being too plodding during the time the couple were snowed up in the cottage. It had potential to be better than it was. Ultimately it was pleasant enough.
