Often out of print/deleted this appears to be Holger's preferred version. This is the man who stopped playing bass with Can to concentrate on serendipitously surfing the radio waves and the art of the razor blade tape collage. Always an innovator, this no exception and his use of vocoder on Ode To Perfume is simply fragrant. A sleeve note by Holger suggests this the full album as Czukay himself intended.

The best track on the original LP, "Ode To Perfume" runs for about 17.5 minutes, and I think this mp3 version splits it into two ("Fragrance", "Ode To Perfume"). The other great LP track, the title track, should run for over 7 minutes. Also, two lesser tracks are missing: "Hiss 'N' Listen" and "Two Bass Shuffle".

"Ode To Perfume" (here it's two tracks remember, see above) is a great song, up there with CAN at their best. Czukay's "Movies" is also brilliant. I haven't enjoyed other Czukay albums nearly as much as these two (haven't heard them all, though).

CAN the most quoted but least heard influence in music of the modern era..FACT..! Holger Czukay co-powerhouse of aforementioned, along with Irmin Schmidt. To speak of this recording in simple terms of quavers and mimims is futile. This piece changes the musical datum in the same way that Copernicus, Newton and Plank did for the physicl world. Effortlessly and unashamedly European, unpolitical, complex... frightening to say:- a mere continuation of the heritage Holger established in that castle in '68. Please buy this record! For once in this world let people with true genius and humanity be rewarded.

This music revived memories of Can at their peak in the wonderful sixties

Had this on vinyl since its release way back, CD version is still sitting north of £30, so an MP3 version for under £2 is excellent.

I was sent a picture disk, although this is not mentioned on the Amazon web site at the time of writing this review. Unfortunately, record player is packed away as we are doing some renovation on the house, so can't say if being a picture disk has any effect on the quality. Maybe someone else can comment on this. The three stars given in the review are only given as I was forced to in order to leave this review for peope to see.
