These are very beautiful concertos, so characteristic of Vivaldi's style, and I enjoyed a lot the first volume ten years ago. But then Alessandrini employed 8 violins and 2 violas, while in this recording he chose to have just one instrument per part: 2 violins and 1 viola. That choice is unfortunate, in my opinion: the delicate balance between strings and continuo is subverted. As a result, we have concertos which are still brilliant but have lost a lot of their atmospheric sound.
This choice was probably made to give these very popular concerti a new, more appealing, dress. I can understand that. But please, give me back a full orchestra for the next volume!
