Enough good stuff for a single CD
on 1 November 2013
Its been a long time since the highly acclaimed and successful The Suburbs, and the temptation these days is to follow up something successful with something entirely different. Win Butler and his merry crew have managed this with some measure of success. It does both benefit and suffer from a "cliched different" (like Fleetwood Mac's Tusk), still recognizable as the creators of their previous works Arcade Fire have produced enough decent and original material stuff to fill a single CD that, With the annoying stuff thrown off, that would have been worth 4 stars. Worryingly in this work, Arcade Fire, like so many of the 70s bands I loved, give hints in this that they are about to disappear up their own jaxy, only to pull themselves free just before its too late, except at the very end.
