Among the very best analog synth John Carpenter scores is Assault on Precinct 13. If you were mesmerized by the haunting minimal, slightly rhythmic and bassy (short) pieces that accompanied the excellent 80s classic movie, this is exactly what you'll find on this reissue. The sound has also been dynamically approved with less noise (without being altered or replayed like some of the other Howard reissues). Be aware however this is a very minimal score with lots of retakes of the minimal main theme. The score breaths atmosphere with tons however, despite the minimal approach. This is a collector's item for all fans of the analog synth 80s soundtrack era.
a legendary film with a legendary soundtrack, assault on precinct 13 broke the mould when it was made on a budget of $100,000. this soundtrack is definitely a collectors item and well worth the money. the music contained on here is varied but always retains that tense feeling instilled from watching the film. the sleeve notes are extensive and interesting and there's even talk of Ice T biggin up John Carpenter as one of the pioneers of modern beat led music. whilst there's not a lot on here to indicate that, the rhodes piano for one of the tracks could be lifted straight off an air tune and the dark beats and synths elsewhere add up to some brooding and disturbed music.all in all one of the best ost's i've heard, (that includes truck turner and blow up) and definitley worth owning as its a genuine piece of history
