A true look at family life
on 28 June 2015
Two books in one. I decided to buy this after hearing Phyllida discuss the premise behind the book.
Notes to my Mother-in-law
As Phyllida's mother in law came to live with the family in the late 70's and in a short time it was apparent that her hearing lose was going to be something of a challenge when passing on day to day news. Phyllida and her mother-in-law began exchanging notes to ensure that no news was missed or misheard. The letters are honest, funny and at times quite touching. Missed with a number of beautiful sketches from Phyllida this was a joy to read.
How many camels are there in Holland?
The second book sees Phyllida's story of dealing with her own mothers dementia, both in the early and late stages. Brilliantly written again, showing the disbelief at first that this was happening and the battles to be believed. Mixed with the need to be both a daughter and an actress, you feel the desperation in her written words. Again a really brilliant read, with a honesty many will relate to.
