A little different from horror movies at the moment as its a real slow burner but its well worth watching if you like this kind of horror, but be warned it twists and turns and you really need to watch closely as it builds to its shattering climax. Fantastically full of suspense it will leave you suitably chilled.

A young priest becomes embroiled in the apparent suicide of a young girl and it seems that he stands accused of refusing to help her following an admission in the confessional that she is pregnant by her stepfather, who it seems also confessed to the affair in a similar manner. The stepfather also commits suicide shortly after. Haunted by these events, he is released from the parish, but returns six months later where he is forced to face his demons and revisit the house in which the deaths took place. Slightly confusing at times, traumatic and harrowing, but nevertheless riveting enough to keep you watching and guessing to the end about the truth of these apparent suicides. Not brilliant, but well acted and cleverly constructed.

A stunning horror, with an excellent twist that will shock & surprise many. The Director creates an eerie dark atmosphere throughout the film & you can see why this has been compared to other great demonic horrors. However this is not some high budget American film with loads of special effects. The Horror is created by clever film making & excellent acting, that literally drags you in to the whole experience.
Who needs fancy multi million pound special effects when you have film making as good as this.
Highly Recommended to all Horror fans.

I love horror. Apart from the appalling "found footage" genre, I can stomach most horror films.

For me, a good horror can be clear without having to always be blood and gore, but it can't be boring.

Heretic sadly is boring. Dull, unclever, poor camera work, acting, script. It has all of them.

Avoid like the plague.

Nothing special, a lot of bad effects, something that on paper could be an interesting story of redemption and damnation but turns into a kind of badly made video-installation for tv.

For a low budget feature film this is really quite good. Very haunting with great performances from the lead actors.

This movie was very obviously low budget which I don't mind. But the acting was totally wooden, which I do mind. The story had a twist which you could see coming a mile off and even when it all came together in the end, you are left wondering 'why?' And not in a good way. I have given the movie two stars because at least it held my interest to watch it until the end, but only just!

Looks good. But watched the DVD. And it's not that good. No scary or tense parts in it. The movie don't come no where near the exorcist. That film is the ultimate horror DVD. The best.

This film is a reminder of how horror films use to be made, with spine chilling suspense. The actors were excellent in particular Michael J Tait was exceptional as Tom Carlisle and played him with true conviction. The only negative would be the casting of the two priests, whilst it felt like a treat for us ladies it is unusual to have two good looking priests living in the same village, Fr Will O'Neill should of been older.
Overall, heretic is brilliant. If you're in the mood spine chilling, slow burn, eerie and fairly daring movie, then Heretic is for you!

This is a refreshingly good UK budget horror, the religious backdrop provides a good setting and some decent acting means the twist has a bit of clout, well recommended for fans of this genre.
