Watched this with my husband and 20-year old son, both of whom were a bit gulpy at the end of the movie!
There are some very moving scenes, beautiful animation, hilarious moments, scary bits and creepy bits (The Big Baby Doll - spooky!). It will appeal to most ages, though perhaps not anyone under the age of 6!
A lovley end to the series, and a wonderful representation of what it's like when a child moves on to the next stage of their life.
Don't miss the extras on the DVD - there's a cute short film, Night and Day, some great interviews with Pixar staff and the actors (also shots of them recording their lines), and lots of interesting bits and pieces.
Despite the fact that they have seen it several times my godchildren we're delighted with this when I gave it,to them and have watched it over and over again. Plenty of things in it to keep the adults amused also.
This film is a masterclass in animation and perfect sequels. Much like The Godfather 2, the Toy Story series is able to top its original time and time again. The film is accessible to children as well as adults who would have grown up with these loveable characters and the script reflects how much Andy, Woody, and Buzz have grown with us. Children will be able to engage with the fun plot, while adults will see the heavier themes about maturity and moving on shining through the comedic moments. Those who aren't moved to tears by the penultimate climax in the incinerator are truly blind to the powers of this film series.
It is wonderful to see how the animation has evolved over the years since the first film, and they have kept loyal to the elements of the original that made it such a well loved franchise.
I know a fourth film is in the works, which I feel may be a bridge too far, but perhaps they can pull off a perfect four film series. Myself, and my inner child, can only hope.
This 1080p AVC 1.78:1 transfer is absolutely pristine. The colours are vibrant that simply jump out at you. Resolution is incredibly sharp and detailed. A totally enjoyable and satisfying visual experience. (5/5)
The DTS-HD 7.1 MA was equally wonderful that simply immersed you into the movies (5/5)
The ending was heart-warming and will tuck at your heart-string. To hear the Gypsy King doing the Spanish version of You've Got A Friend In Me while Buzz (temporary turned Spanish), and Jessie, doing the tango was a real treat. This is a movie for both young and old. Now that the Toy Story 1, 2 and 3 are all out on blu ray, it will be a great idea to have a Toy Story Day during future holidays, viewing all three in a row. And that reminded me of the Lord Of the Ring days, watching all extended editions in a row. Luckily, Toy Story is much shorter, while we are still waiting for the HD editions of the Extended Cut of The Lord Of the Rings trilogy. Toy Story 3 (blu ray) is highly recommended, and a must-own, like Toy Story 1 and 2 (blu ray).
If the presentation is important to you then know that the cardboard cover has a large, raised security bar stuck to the back and this can't be removed without ripping the cover which is a shame. It could just have been my copy but I was rather annoyed. Fantastic film though. May be the best animated film of all time in amazing High Definition.
TOY STORY 3 continues the high quality of its predecessors; with a heart-warming story, hilarious script, and stunning CGI animation. The movie begins with Andy leaving for college and accidentally donating his beloved toys -- including Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the Potato-Head family-- to a daycare. While the crew meets new friends, including Ken (Michael Keaton) and plush patriarch Lotso (Ned Beatty), they soon grow to hate their new surroundings and plan an escape.
