This was purchased from Amazon, as a Christmas present, but not by me. The 3 disc vinyl version. How convenient, released on the 9th December, just in time to cash in on the resurgence of vinyl sales and pre-Christmas!
I'm sorry but I can't agree with the other reviewers about this release. It might sound o.k. played on a 1960's Dansette but not on a good quality record playing system. What's the odds the recordings sound better in their original condition before "re-master"? Leave them as they were intended!
I don't know where the vinyl has been pressed or what quality control is evident at the pressing plant, but all three discs are marked on their playing surface and side two of disc one is full of audible miniature craters. They indicate a lack of cleanliness, it looks like foreign matter has been pressed into the vinyl when hot and remained stuck to the stampers.
Too many tracks on each as well resulting in a very narrow groove. Because of this the sylus cannot "dig" deep enough and extract all the information cut into it. Therefore poorer quality sound.
So, if you don't want to be £30 lighter, go for the c.d. version instead at half the price. I wouldn't be surprised if the c.d. issue sounds better too.
