They can do better
on 1 July 2013
If you're a fan of Amon Amarth, you don't want them to radically change their music style because everything you'll already love is what they give. However, this album feels like it could have been better.
Many of the tracks don't feel unique and special enough, look back to their first album Once Sent From The Golden Hall, with numerous 6-8 min tracks full of raw and epic. Then With Oden On Our Side, which again delivered an array of songs that are instantly memorable and packed with great riffs and emotion.
With this album however, vocals aside (Hegg never disappoints, here they're great) but the songs feel weak and not new in many ways, one in particular sounding just like Death In Fire. The solo's also sound weak. Shapeshifter and As Loke Falls are great songs, but aside from one or two others, don't expect a new landmark Amon Amarth album.
