Good Album but forgettable and mechanical
on 22 February 2014
Well this is my first Haken album and my expectations were very high, but I was rather disappointed when I first listened to it. After 3 or 4 more listens, the only track that I could recollect was 'cockroach king', which is excellent. I found the songs lacking in emotion, particularly the vocals (with the exception of a couple of tracks). However, these criticisms aside, there's not really anything to truly dislike about the album either. It sounds great and the musicianship is suburb, but I cannot give it any more than three stars simply because I do not gain any real enjoyment from the music held within. It may appeal to people who like bands such as Porcupine Tree, The Pineapple Thief or Radiohead but it doesn't really sound like any of these bands. I don't believe it will appeal to fans of 70's progressive rock looking for the the new torch-bearers or the progressive modern world, but hey that's just my opinion after all.
