Super budget printer with good print quality
on 3 May 2014
This is the most affordable HP offering printer wise, don't expect anything fancy here this is a modest update over the previous HP printer range (and they have not changed a lot over the last few years)
But it's a solid buy for someone on a tight budget or just wanting a simple printer for light home use.
+ It's cheap not a lot more than the pack of cartridges
+ Easy to install and use
+ Print output is good, clear text and fairly good at photo prints (I would take care with photos they consume lots of ink)
+ Scanning and copying is above average quality wise
+ HP301 cartridges are included black and colour
+ Cartridges are not chipped (you can re-fill them)
- No wifi just simple USB connection
- No USB cable included
- Not the fastest printer (it's acceptable normal text printing)
Paper feeder holds about 50-60 pages of normal A4, it's a fairly compact all in one printer but take note like some of the other cheaper HP's it does not support borderless printing. Print output is really quite good and better than expected with good clear text and more than satisfactory in this price range.
This is really intended for light home use, be aware of the ink costs. The standard HP301 carts are not expensive but they don't hold a huge quantity of ink, esp the black. The XL carts are more expensive but also better value in terms of cost per page. The good news is despite the ink indicator moaning at you, HP don't stop you re-filling the cartidges (unlike other makers) Simply peel back the top label and slowly re-fill (guides are available online for both colour and black) You can get a few re-fills out of each cart.
Taking into consideration the very low purchase price and non chipped ink cartridges it's a bit of a bargain.
