This book has some sterling advice, clearly based on real experiences and provides practical solutions to the aspiring UX practitioner, as well as the more experienced professional.
Personally I found the practical tools the most helpful out of any book I've come across. Being able to apply good user experience techniques fits hand in hand with understanding the theories so having some real templates, guides and tools to get others involved in the process of user experience design is incredibly helpful.
Alongside the theories and tools, this book finally provides guidance and advice on getting others involved in the user experience process. These ideas and guides don't just apply if you're working on your own as a freelancer or contractor but work equally well if you're the only person in a team or organisation that seems user experience as something to care about.
Whether you're someone interested in learning more about user experience or already a practicing professional in the field, I highly recommend you get a copy of this book. It's worth more than it's weight in gold.
The initial chapters are quite basic and introductory for anyone that is already inside the UX world but the author writes in a simple engaging way so it kept me going. The meat of the book though is it's UX cookbook where you can be reminded of techniques and processes or learn new ones. Overall there is not a lot of detail in each but enough to either get you started or remind you why you should be using them. It might prove the perfect companion for new starters but for current UX designers it's more of a quick refresh and some good notes. I have published my notes on the book if you want to take a look: [...]
I am a graphic designer and web designer and wanted to explore what UX really meant to me and how I could start to use it in my work. This book made the theories very clear but also gave a range of tools for executing UX in practice. These were presented to that you could pick out key processes to implement if you were likely to be restricted on time in a project or choose to get more in depth if time allowed.
A brilliant choice for beginners and professionals alike.
