Simply the best AIO for me
on 31 August 2013
I've been looking at AIOs for some time and until now had not found one that covered all my requirements.
If you want an AIO for word, excel, picture viewing, web browsing, email and casual games like angry birds, solitaire, hit and run then there are plenty of cheaper models that will do a great job and some more expensive that do a great job.
The advantage of this model over the others is that it has a decent graphics and processor chips that enable you to run more intensive applications. Like what ? well I needed one for music recording and audio processing, photo editing, web development and games like Civilization 5, Dragon Age, etc.. Yes other machines may be able to run these applications but far more slowly and at a lower resolution and refresh rate.
This machine also enables the screen to lay at any angle between flat and upright, most others don't and those that do have a slow processor and graphics card (Sony Tap 20 and HP Envy Rove). This enable you to use in many configurations and also takes advantage of some of the multiplayer 10 point touch games.
The screen is a quad definition 10 point touch device, matched by the Dell XPS One 27. However, again it can lie flat and the processors are better. It is very sharp and crisp, great colours and thin. As with all touch screens you get finger marks, but they really only show up when the screen is off. Like many others it is quite reflective, so don't position facing a window other than that it is fine especially as you can change the viewing angle so much.
There is a 1TB hard drive, the laptop type running at 5400rpm not 7200rpm. There are other machines with a faster hard drive and/or a solid state device. So a bit of a shame however I don't notice any serious lag. It is changeable though if you want to replace.
The keyboard and mouse are both wireless and do the job. If you are a touch typist then a replacement keyboard will probably be needed.
It comes with a Blue Ray / DVD combo drive so great for films etc.. oh and also a TV tuner.
At the end of the day, see what you really need the machine to do. For casual use this is over the top, but if you need the power then this will do the job without looking much different to a flat screen TV.
These are only just arriving in the UK so grab one whilst available or you may be waiting a few weeks ( Lenovo UK didn't have any when I looked and offered no schedule either).
P.S. Gamers look at the MSI AIO gaming rig, great spec but not a quad display or ability to lie flat.
P.P.S. For a tablet/PC look at the Asus transformer AIO 18" portable screen capable of running Android and Windows 8 or the Dell XPS 18
