Come on the Glasvegas journey and don't look back!
on 14 September 2013
I'm fed up with everyone moaning about Euphoric Heartbreak, which I loved, and comparing everything the band does to the first album. Okay, I know that's only natural as they set a very high standard for themselves at the beginning, but I love the fact that each album is 'conceptually' different and not just a re-tread of past glories. That each album isn't packed with 10 Geraldines isn't the point in my opinion, yet I actually hear lots of tunes here on Static, just as I did on EH. Like all the best albums, take it as a whole and give it a few spins, then its atmospheric brilliance begins to become apparent.
The deluxe edition with bonus DVD and beautiful bound packaging is essential. I'm sceptical of the whole deluxe edition phenomenon, though often give in to temptation only to be underwhelmed, but this one really is a masterclass in how to do it right and give the fans exceptional value for money. The stripped-down live performance of the entire album on the DVD is magnificent, and amazingly there's much more than that included here.
I really hope that the band continue on their singular journey and produce more music of this high standard, regardless of whether or not they scale the commercial heights of their debut again. They deserve to, but we all know that sometimes the best music is made under the radar. And that the entire package is Made In Scotland is the icing on the cake. Go Glasvegas Go!
