NHL14. Good but with some major issues.
on 14 September 2013
I love hockey, even played for a few years. I also love the NHL EAsports franchise. I've bought every one since it was originally released all those years ago on the Sega megadrive. So I guess you can say yeah I love the NHL series. This years latest is very very impressive. New hit physics, new fight engine and all new one button deke system. Which in all does make for a very impressive sounding game. However.... the game has "issues". The scoring rubber band issue, when your winning and your close to the final buzzer the opposition AI takes on super human powers to get that tying last minute goal. You can throw bodies at them, sticks, kitchen sinks even the zamboni but no matter what you will not regain possession. The skating.... sigh.. so frustrating to have your skater facing in the totally wrong direction to accept the puck, almost to the point you scream at the TV for him to turn around! Tripping penalties, the bane of my time on this game, constantly being called for tripping to the point were your terrified of coming anywhere near your opponent. I've tried custom sliders, adjusting the difficulty but no matter what I am the tripping king. So all in all a good game let down by some very frustrating issues. Hopefully future tuner downloads might put these issues right, until then I shall play with gritted teeth and a fear of shoving my stick out.
