It took Character Options some time to get the shape of the 21st century Dalek right, but when they did they gave collectors a 5" Dalek to be proud of. Yes, it was a toy, but Dalek fans can be rather picky - myself included. When they announced that figures from the last series of "Doctor Who" would be reduced from 5" to 3.75" there was much dismay from die hard collectors of the toys - not being a fan of the current incarnation the change didn't bother me, but I was keen to see what the Dalek would be like.

Character have done a great job in capturing the shape, and the details are nice and sharp. The arms, eye and head all move and he has wheels under the bumper to allow little Johnny to play with him on the carpet or wherever. The bronze colour is rather more brown than it should be, but that's a minor grumble. I don't know how long it would last in the hands of a child, but as a collector I really appreciate the fine detail and in-proportion appendages.

To accompany the Dalek Character are offering a cardboard playset depicting a Dalek invasion of Earth, and within this set is a very nice Hoverbout - the Daleks' original means of travelling over rough ground or in space for short distances in the comics. While the original designs were a circular platform with a guard rail around it, this new version takes its design cues from the Genesis Ark featured in the 2006 series finale "Doomsday", which ironically was a Time Lord prison device (but we'll let them away with that).
The Dalek fits into a shaped recess on the platform and the sucker can be placed over a ball-shaped control on the console. It's a pity that there is no stand included to allow the hoverbout and pilot to be posed as if flying, but it should be easy enough to produce one.

In all I think the Dalek from this smaller size range is superb... I can't speak for the rest of the figures as I have no intention of buying any of them.

First of all i want to point out that there was nothing technically wrong with this figure. the sculpt, paint, general quality and even delivery was perfect.....

however...this is technically not the bronze dalek. what i got was the, now quite common, black domed "emperors guard dalek" variant. This was annoying as i'd shelled out almost twice the regular price for the, now harder to find, bronze dalek as advertised.

While Amazon are selling this thing at £16.99, the RRP is actually only £6.99
Don't waste your money - nip down to Toys R Us and buy one.
Either way, this pales in comparison to the 5" range. Character Options should go back to making the bigger ones.

As with another purchaser in these reviews, I find that I've paid £10 over the odds for the far more common (and cheaper!) Emperor's Guard variant when it claims to be the Bronze Dalek (which was pictured). A refund is the only thing possible apparently. Off to eBay I go...

I should have checked the size, but didn't realise Character made two sizes of their models, why? So very disappointed.
