Excellent bit of kit
on 29 April 2014
I think that the Instruction Manual could be improved with a little more advice about the indicator lights on start-up and with some information about approximate time required to clone discs; such as :-
- Load source in bay A, target in bay B, turn on power.
- Power light and both bay indicator lights should be on. If not, switch off and check the seating of the disks in the connector sockets, then try again.
- Press and hold the clone button for about 3 seconds until the indicator light comes on. Then release the clone button and re-press quickly before the indicator light goes off. The 25% light should then start flashing immediately showing that cloning has started OK.
That last bit is IMPORTANT.
The time taken to clone my 500GB disk was about 2 hours 10 minutes.
It's a Windows 8.1 something drive, and the cloying went well, reached a 10%% and sat there for a few minutes, till I switched it off. I accidentally pressed the button again - it shows 100%, but I then switched it off. Seems to be ok, but when I put it in the laptop, Windows showed an error to start with, went and fixed it, and then booted fine.
I think the error was, I should have gone into BIOS setup to tell it about the new drive. Just "let it see it" ... and then it would have been fine. On second boot, all appears to be well.
Nice WD Blue, 1TB drive.
The cloning placed the "new" drive into a new partition, and left a 480 something GB blank partition.
I then went into Disk Management on the Windows Control Panel, and Extended the partition out to 916.82 GB NTS. Easy, its automatic, no fuss.
Hope this helps someone.
