I've had the album for over a month now and have to say, i'm kinda in the middle on how good it is. I shouldn't judge the album in comparison to 'Time Is Up' because that would be unfair however the only reason i do is because the time difference between the 2 albums is only about 2 years, and thats not a lengthy amount of time for a band that play and travel quite a bit. So surely it might sound similar in this case? No, The Havok sound appears to be here but just held back a tiny bit. The instrumentation just isnt as technical, which isnt a bad thing as 'Under The Gun' proves that not all there songs should be technical for them to sound good and catchy. As for a new Thrash Band is seems as though the band held back on double timing for the majority of the album, however the title track 'Unnatural Selection' proved to be an absolute killer and was clever positioning on the album.
Production wise the albums sound seemed pretty thin compare to 'Time Is Up' which was pretty full however shares similarities with the first album 'Burn's production, So if you liked the sound of that album this one shouldn't bother you.
Overall i think the album is O.K it had potential but due maybe to company deadlines the album does seem rushed, maybe another 3-4 months working on recording ideas and production could of given this album the wow factor that 'Time Is Up' had. Though i do have to admit this album wiped the floor with Evile's 'Skull' album though that album didn't set the bar very high. I would advise picking up 'Time Is Up' first before any other of there albums. Great band.
