Looks great, but never got to use it
on 17 November 2014
It looked great and good quality, but I never actually got to use it. I think I damaged the end of the 3.5mm plug when trying to plug it in, so ended up with a really bad earth hum. I then bought another cable from Maplins and plugged one end into an iPod and the other into the phono sockets on a Naim Nait amp. Only to end up with a very bass-heavy sound. A visit to Michael McClean at Lyric Hi-Fi in Belfast revealed that in the early Fifties, LP grooves couldn't produce decent bass, so phono inputs on amps had a bass boost. DIN sockets don't, so in the end the iPod is connected to the five-pin aux socket on the Naim, running Spotify Premium. Result - eventually :) Just be aware of that bass boost if you're plugging any source other than a turntable into phono sockets.
