Best tasting gin ever!
19 June 2014
If you'd have asked me 5 yrs ago 'do you like gin' I would have had to say no. To be fair my experience had been limited to makes like Gordons which to me tastes like that horrible stuff your mum used to paint on your nails with as a kid to stop you chewing them. All bitter and no flavour.
Weirdly we stumbled across Warners whilst at a wine tasting event! There was a table set out with all of the many ingredients which went into the making of the gin which was intriguing and if I'm being honest my wife wanted a change from wine after about 10 glasses so she gravitated towards this stall (I assumed I'd hate the gin as much as usual but got dragged over too).
Anyway we got chatting to the really nice couple working behind the desk who it turned out were the actual creators and owners of the brewery and gave us the run down on how they'd basically turned a hobby and passion into a business. Bought a massive copper still from Germany and set it up on land with 7 different fresh water pools picking the one which tatsted nicest to make the gin with.
That first time we tried both this and the elderflower version they make which is also superb. Tbh this gin for me was a complete revelation. The stuff is amazing, it has a really unique, smooth and non bitter taste which is bursting with flavours. My wife just drinks hers neat over a lot of ice it's that nice. Personally whilst I can also enjoy this neat I do really prefer mine with plenty of ice and Fever Tree tonic.
I've since tried a lot of different gins and have found others which are also excellent but none have surpassed Warners. After the first bottle we had went in a matter of days my wife and I try to have this more as a treat if we want a drink which is just a touch special (it still disappears pretty damn quickly though). We can also highly recommend the Rhubarb and Elderflower versions which are also gorgeous.
