game is good - the guitar is flawed
on 2 January 2014
played guitar for 30 years but in the last 12 or so i haven't really picked it up at all.
bought this as i wanted a cheap electric guitar and thought that the game might be quite fun too.
1 - the game. if you're a complete beginner there is a whole lot to get from this. probably the best teaching tool i've seen for those who are into rock and want to get into that style of playing. it does cover all the basics and then lets you progress at your own pace...adapting as you improve. if you can already play then you'll probably still get something from it. i inverted the fret view as it feels more natural to me. have thrashed away for a few hours and while i haven't learnt much i've had a fair bit of fun. the song selection is quite varied but there are only maybe 6 or 7 that really float my boat. the DLC is rather expensive if you wanted to expand.
2 - the guitar. i received a bad example. the first fret is FAR too low on the high E side. can't even play a note on the high E at that fret. raised the bridge and changed strings but it's still the same. will have to get it looked at by a tech to get the fret raised. will no doubt be quite costly. if it didn't weigh so much (and i had the time) i'd send it back. apart from this issue the guitar is solid with decent hardware...it stays in tune well enough too. sure this is a rare issue but i'm rather annoyed about it nonetheless. quality control? no.
