Well, I once saw the Cowboy Bebop movie on TV many years ago, and had good memories of it.
On a whim, I felt like checking out if the original series was good too, and bought both of the two parts of the collector's edition.
The bluray discs worked well and the image quality was, as hoped, good.
Each of the episodes is roughly centered around a certain song which is frequently heard during the episode and sets the mood, whereas the contents of the episodes are (mostly) more like vaguely connected snapshots of the life of a space bounty hunters than a tightly knit and fast moving storyline. Of course, the series does contain a story with a beginning and a (good) end, but it is fleshed out at a pretty relaxed pace and isn't always on the foreground of the single episodes.
Furthermore, the characters and their voice acting was pleasant and the moods of the individual episodes make the series well worth watching again. Of course, it should be noted that I always prefer watching my anime with Japanese voice acting and English subtitles, so I cannot say about the quality of English voice acting at all.
All in all, I liked it and feel that it's a good series to look into...
Got this and watched this all the way through. The quality is fine, there is 2 second glitch like there was in the first box set that I saw. Everything is refreshed to better quality and the sound is perfectly fine. This is a must have for the price it is at, because I think its a bargain, you again get the art book with it as well which focuses on the ships and interiors of the Bebop itself.
I do like this half of the series as it does have some of my favorite episodes on there such as Wild Horses and Cowboy Funk but you'll have to watch it all to enjoy it fully.
Here's hoping they might do something else with the series after the ending. Since it leaves you wanting more, but fans of the series would already know that and new people to the series will want the same I reckon.
There were very FEW things which kind of bothered me at times, as such being, the English translation used the American English type rather than British for a UK release this is an odd choice, then there's that the video quality had a brightness increase for another strange reason but despite these two flaws I loved this Blu-ray release of Cowboy Bebop.
The packaging of this is definitely stunning, plus with the books they sure make it even more appealing to give it a read before watching it although it's just art of the characters and stuff.
By the way, the extras such as, Textless OP and ED are on Part 1 Disc 1, instead of being on the last disc of the collection (Part 2 Disc 2).
Cowboy Bebop is a classic anime series, that has really stood the test of time. Visually it's a treat, but for me it's the fantastic music by the brilliant Yoko Kanno that really makes it stand out. The collectors edition has lots of interesting extras on the discs, and is packaged with an art book. A treat.
This blu ray is region B only. The first set is region free, but this one is B.
I recommend the Japanese collection for people who don't have a region free player; it has English language and subtitles, but sound quality is lower for the English track, and you could buy a region free player for the same price as the Japanese collection.
