I have had this book for a while now and it provided the information which helped to connect the dots of joining the ranks of the self employed . it touches on some of the more important personal issues like self motivation , staying organised and building in some form of contingency when your workload starts to overwhelm you . It can be a very lonely and at times an obsessive existence working for yourself and i feel this book is helping me to get the work/ home balance right . The book is a very honest read and easy to digest although it covers a lot of ground which is essential to my survival and taken away alot of the nagging self doubt which creeps in from time to time . It's written in a sort of journal style but the author provides lots of information which i use as a template i find the book provokes my thinking helping me to plan ahead . and it's a formula which works for me .
This well written book provides an insight into Liz's career as a freelancer. Liz gives the reader sound, invaluable advice that has served to inspire my own fledgling career. The book is also interspersed with light-hearted insights that makes the reading a pleasurable experience. Thank you Liz for sharing your wisdom. This book is a little gem.
This book was extremely helpful. Similar to mining gold, you have to dig deep to unearth the treasures in the little bits of advice, examples, strategies and others that Liz used and which are very practical and lead to great success. It is clear that she is hardworking and I was impressed with how meticulous she was in keeping up with social media and using the resources (such as statistics of who viewed your page and why) to advance her business. I loved and appreciated the fact that she is so willing to share the wealth of information that has enabled her to be where she is now, this is truly worth emulating for all whether business owners or not. I did go through certain parts of the book (different kinds of tea, types of clothes to wear at the home/office) very much hoping that I would at least glean something from all those pages that would generate an idea for my work/business. All in all a great, practical book and I would wholeheartedly recommend it. It is to be read over and over again.
As I am in the process of setting up my own freelance proofreading and editing business, it has been really useful to read Liz's journey through her first full time year. It has given me plenty to think about, but also boosted my confidence that I, too, can build a successful business. Thanks Liz!
Great introduction into the world of freelance! Liz's tone is one you can relate to as it is approachable and warm. There are no gimmicks to this book; it delivers what it says. Liz ventured into the world of freelance and details how she did it, hoping that somewhere in between her pages, you too will find that spark and be galvanised into putting your own goals into action.
I've been following the authors blog for a while and when I found out that this book was now available in format other than for e-readers I just had to buy it. I started with my full time self-employment 2 months ago after working with my self employment in tandem with full time employment elsewhere and found there was a lot of information that resonated with me.
A really easy to understand book which was enjoyable and informative.
Excellent and to be recommended to anyone thinking of the self-employment route.
I read the Kindle edition of How I Survived My First Year Of Full-time Self-Employment: Going It Alone At 40 by Liz Broomfield some weeks ago and I was so impressed. I finished it in a day, I could not put it down. Liz Broomfield’s journey to self-employment at 40 encouraged and inspired me. It is never too late to chase your dreams and her story has awaken the entrepreneur spirit in me.
I also love her writing style, it is quite engaging and the diarised account is very different but fun to read. I recommend this book to anybody thinking of going down the self-employment route. This refreshing book will inspire you to take that planned leap of faith.
I really enjoyed this book. It's something I'm aspiring to and i found the helpful guidance as well as the honest progress steps to be truly inspiring - thank you very much for this book I'm starting to believe!
