It's true there are no English subtitles, but big deal. This is a wonderful blu-ray, the singing is excellent, and to be able to see Pregardien and Gees as they perform this wonderful piece in the studio is an absolute joy, and if you are really familiar with this piece you will already know what is being sung, so lack of subtitles is not a problem. It's not like they provide subtitles when you go and see an opera, so the lack of subtitles was not a big deal for me. There's also included a wonderful 20 minute documentary where Pregardien and Gees talk about the piece and the challenges that come with performing it. And included on top of that is a CD copy of the performance, perfect!!! If you are a fan of Winterreise then getting this blu-ray is a no-brainer

How on earth can someone believe that a English translation of Winterreise can not be baught outside germany.

Amazingly there are NO ENGLISH SUBTITLES! In music that depends totally on the words to create its mood it is incomprehensible that there would be no subtitles in any language other than German. This is particularly infuriating as it is beautifully sung and recorded.
Sadly one must say DO NOT BUY THIS DISC unless you are fluent in German. The amazon information talks about it being dubbed in English (which I mistakenly took to mean English translations would be available). The short black and white doco has English subtitles as the artists explain their interpretation, but all that does is make it even more unacceptable that the text is not translated for sale outside Germany.
