This second volume of the 'Bodacious Space Pirates' anime contains the final thirteen episodes of this greatly entertaining series. The animation used in the show remains very good, especially in the final arc of the series, with some nice humour, interesting characters and some good action towards the end (as the anime moves away from the source material). The volume includes both the English and Japanese language versions (with the Japanese being the default once again) and I will admit that while I still prefer the original Japanese voices, the English cast is definitely growing on me.
The series begins with the crew of the Bentenamaru being infected by a highly contagious disease, forcing them to be quarantined. With Marika's Pirate Licence needing to be renewed, she is forced to look for a new crew she can trust on short notice, eventually settling on recruiting her friends from the Yacht Club. While quite silly in places, this arc is still entertaining and has some nice funny moments. The last couple of episodes are probably the best part of the arc with the return of an old friend and some nice character moments.
The next two arcs of the series are anime exclusive storylines and have a little more action than those based on the original light novels. The first of these anime exclusive arcs sees the Hakuoh Academy Yacht Club attending the Nebula Cup, a race the Academy hasn't in years but the mistrust of the race organisers and the interference of shady people out to get Marika causes problems for the race. This is the shortest arc of the series and is reasonably entertaining. The arc also gives some nice focus on Yacht Club member Ai Hoshimiya who is quite cute and interesting character.
The final arc of the series, and the second anime original arc, that sees a mysterious and powerful ship begin hunting down pirates in the frontier systems. In an effort to defeat the dangerous pirate hunter, Marika sets comes up with a plan to protect the pirates way of life. Despite not being a part of the original light novel stories, this is probably my favourite arc of the series as it has some good action while keeping the usual humour of the show. This arc also allows us to meet a few more pirate crews and shows just how good a captain Marika has become.
Overall 'Bodacious Space Pirates' is a greatly entertaining series, even if the pace is a little slow in places. As with the previous volume I feel this half of the series, and the series as a whole, is well worth a full five stars.

This second part is every bit as good as the first. One of the really good things about this series is that the humour is not overdone and there is very little repeating. Compare this with Bleach, say, where a good part of each episode seems to be flashbacks to things already seen or over long bringing up to date on what happened in previous episodes. In this series it is brief and to the point.
