I have been an avid reader and viewer of Science Fiction since the 70's, and as such, delight when a show comes along which truly makes a mark and leaves you eager for more. If you have enjoyed shows like the new Battlestar Galactica or the 4400, where the development of the characters truly takes place through the progress of the story, then this is a show you should watch. Commencing in the wake of a devastating Alien invasion, the core of the show focuses upon one particular group of people who have formed a militia in order to find a way to survive and resist. The leaders of this company are superbly portrayed by Noah Wylie (Tom Mason) and Will Patton (Dan Weaver), who must use any and all means to not only survive, but to seek to keep their humanity. The story becomes more intense as the seasons unfold, and will cause you to laugh and cry as the fortunes of the 2nd Mass rise and fall. Simply one of the best shows of the genre of the last decade. The box set will get you firmly established and eager for more.
Falling Skies has ended the prolonged dry spell of good sci-fi series. At the start it comes across as a feel good story - a group of people bravely and often successfully fighting off the alien occupiers - but swiftly becomes full of very imaginative plot lines with lots of action and drama. Not having seen the first three series when the 4th was advertised to be shown soon on TV I started from the beginning and was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I began to get into the story lines and how much I was enjoying it. Each series just seemed to get better.
Wow. The complexities of this series is really convincing. I've not seen any plot twist which left me thinking "no that wouldn't happen". Acting is superb as are sets/locations and CGI. This box set is fine - as in plays fine, gives good picture and sound. The extra bits on how the aliens are created and the like are also interesting.
