I remember watching an 'under the counter' original VHS, the gory bits seem quite mild now compared to modern films plus some of the dialogue will make you cringe !

Great cult-horror film from the 80's, a fan of horror should watch this film. It is original and interesting, with good special effects and music; It's not so brutal or scary, just a good and inspired vintage horror.

A group of boys play a prank on the camp caretaker Cropsy, but the prank goes badly wrong and he is burned and horribly disfigured. A few years later and upon leaving hospital Cropsy is out for revenge and goes to the camp to slaughter those he blames.

One of the very best early 80's slasher movies with many positives The innovative special effects by Tom Savini are excellent, the performances are unusually for this kind of thing very good including some soon to be famous faces- Jason Alexander, Holly Hunter, Fisher Stevens, the direction by British director Tony Maylam is good, he keeps the story flowing and the pace never really slips, the look and feel of the production also way surpassed my expectations and the fact they used a real urban legend in Cropsy as the maniac was a real bonus. The movie also maintains a creepy tension throughout plus the raft and cave scenes are particularly good. The only (minor) downside however is the lack of originality thanks in no small part to the previous years Friday The 13th, which did make me feel I'd been here before. Head and shoulders above most of it's contemporaries, the movie does stand out among slasher films of the time with the fact it's just a very good & enjoyable film.

Thorn EMI who released the film in the UK on home video in 1982 in error released the uncut version not the BBFC slightly trimmed version and this uncut version subsequently landed on the video nasty list in 1983, this also clearly gave the film some of it's notoriety.

A janitor at a summer camp is accidently burned severely from a prank. Years later, he is released from an institute, and returns to the camp with a pair of hedge clippers to take bloody revenge on the campers.

This is an essential 80's slasher to own on Blu-ray/DVD now looking amazing thanks to Arrow! A cult classic slasher set in the woods, very Friday the 13th in its style, the cast is great in this movie all round, the practical gore effects are great, Tom Savini did an amazing job, the music score is great too, its just an all round fantastic 80's slasher with all the elements you need, blood, boobs, and a cool unforgettable finale! This is a must have for the collection.

An excellent 80's slasher; better than Friday the 13th in my opinion. Poor Cropsy a teen camp caretaker gets horribly burnt in a cruel prank by a group of campers, survives but spends 5 years suffering in hospital subjected to unsuccessful skin grafts etc before leaving terribly disfigured and more than a bit peeved to lash out at all and sundry though gravitates back towards 'Blackfoot Camp' to wreak his vengeance against the soon to be unhappy campers who reside there.
A bit of a slow burner, there is only one slaying within the first half of the film but then all hell is set loose and Cropsy really goes to work with his garden shears. Featuring a good protagonist in Cropsy, good killings with one stand out set piece of slaughter in particular, great special effects by Savini, nudity, and a nice straight-forward story The Burning has lots to recommend though is unlikely to convert those who just don't like slasher type films. Hadn't seen it for 20 years and was really impressed with how the effects still looked great, a so much better time for horrors before the advent of CGI. Excellent all round.

Pale Friday the 13th imitation with some extreme graphic torture porn kills. The acting is truly diabolical but don't let that put you off. The special make up effects by Mr. Tom Savini are magnificent. The film only runs for an hour and 30 minutes. Picture quality, not the aspect ratio - which is as abhorrent as the acting, is very good for DVD. Can't wait for the blu ray release in the autumn. Looks like the version I got is the full, uncut version if the opening hooker murder is anything to go by. This slasher movie is stupendously sexist with way OTT female sexuality on display. But, hey, if you have a strong stomach it's ok. The Burning is slightly different in that instead of a nubile, teenage, virginal, final girl there is a final guy. The infamous raft scene is why this release gets three gold stars from me. The murderous massacre is genuinely a joy to behold. That having been typed The Burning will never be as good as the Friday the 13th films. Well worth a watch for the gore but not much else.

There are no words to describe how happy I am with this purchase. Prior to buying this version, I bought the Vipco version for 3 times the price...what a mistake! Compared to this, the vipco version looks terrible! The picture transfer and sound are perfect on this DVD. It isn't dark like the vipco. It is uncut aswell so that is another treat to see all the gore with such a clear cut picture. Don't waste your money on highly priced versions, purchase this and you wont regret it. It plays in english and the japanese subtitles can be turned off easily. Again, I am so happy with this!! I can't recommend it enough

The Burning for me is one of the best slasher films ever made, and who can forget the raft massacre?, with fingers flying everywhere.

Now Arrow have done a great job with the Blu-ray transfer, it gets a 4/5 from me, even the dark scenes look very good, but i have to say the Steelbook is just awesome. Another stunning release from Arrow..
