Taggart Undercover: Simply the best
on 3 May 2017
James MacPherson (DCI Mike Jardine) succeeded Mark MacManus (Taggart) as the lead in this excellent mystery series set in Glasgow, a city with rich architecture, rich history, but also a long record of violent crime from 20th century "hard men" back to Victorian cutthroats. Typical is the episode "A Few Bad Men" in which DI Robbie Ross goes undercover in an army regiment with long tradition which is training a new generation of squaddies for combat in the Middle East. In fact, this collection could be titled "Taggart Undercover" as DC Stuart Fraser puts his life on the line smoke out a serial killer in the gay community, while DS Jackie Reid risks death in a remote rural community where robbers have fallen out over buried treasure. With great acting, unguessable plot developments, high-wire tension, and an edge-of-the-seat ending every time, mystery/detective stories just don't come any better than Taggart.
