Where's Streetband? What about this for a Cooking Songs comp...
on 29 March 2013
Whilst this is an above average selection of songs with the odd surprise amongst the usual suspects, I can't help but wonder why on earth this is supposed to be a collection of Cooking Songs?
Where's Toast by Streetband, or Breakfast in Bed by Dusty Springfield?
Dinner With Gershwin by Donna Summer would have been another good track to include. Sugar Sugar by the Archies maybe, Sliced Tomatoes by the Just Brothers and Patti Page's Old Cape Cod - equally overlooked.
Then there's Bangers 'n' Mash from Peter Sellers, I'd Rather Go Blind by Chicken Shack, I Wanna Be A Winner by Brown Sauce, Breakfast at Tiffany's by Deep Blue Something and How Do You Like Your Eggs In The Morning by Dean Martin (and Little Ol' Wine Drinker Me at a push).
You could have a whole CD of chocolate songs: Chocolate Girl, Sweets Like Chocolate, Chocolate Box, anything by Hot Chocolate, Mousse T might be having too much of a laugh, Chocolate by Snow Patrol and there's that new one in the charts too, The Galaxy Song by Monty Python, Walking On The Milky Way from OMD, oh Chocolate Cake by Crowded House, Careless Wispa (actually, let's hold back on the puns for now - although can I just say, Rolo-ver Beethoven).
Ooh, Milkshake by Kelis, another good one. Being Boiled by the Human League, Steam by Peter Gabriel, even sneak in The Boy Does Nothing by Alesha Dixon - can't believe that didn't make it on this quietly sexist offering.
Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, of course, and Strawberry Fields Forever - then Raspberry Beret, Buttery Biscuit Bass, One Bad Apple by the Osmonds, Blackberry Way, anything by Orange Juice and Jasper Carrot (not together, obv), Banana Republic, heck let's chuck in the theme to the Banana Splits too.
Someone say themes? Roobarb must qualify.
Green Onions, The Onion Song... Hot Butter by Popcorn (hey, a double whammy) but would something by Wham (as in Wham bar) and indeed Toni Basil be a little vague? That Ketchup Song, I guess, not forgetting The Fast Food Song by The Fast Food Rockers, hmm and maybe The Chicken Song, yes and Cold Turkey by John Lennon. Meat Is Murder by the Smiths?
There's A Guy Works Down The Chip Shop Swears He's Elvis! I Am A Cider Drinker! Milk and Alcohol! Pumpkin Soup by Kate Nash and therefore anything by the Soup Dragons.
There you go - that's gotta be enough for a triple CD, surely? Who compiles these albums? I want their job!!
