I've encountered Dana in many of her musical/theatrical personas over the years and never really went for some of her earlier enterprises and consequently ignored her musical output for decades. HOWEVER...I've just downloaded 'hot stuff' and 'big boy' as they are great pieces of 'tongue-in-cheek' blues, boogie-woogie and rock n roll raunch that are peppered with the sort of brilliant innuendoes that the wonderful Victoria Spivey used to slip into the songs on her blues albums way back in the 1930s and 40s. This is what it's all about and I'm really cheesed off that I never cottoned on to Dana's colourful bluesy phase much earlier. No nerdy, twee, safe and sanitised political correctness here. Both this and 'big boy' are just the sort of albums I need to hear in order to maintain my sanity and feelings of individuality in this ever more crushingly joyless and boring World we are made to endure. A great album.
this is a classic album, for the fanatical blues and chill out kinda individual. some serious blues, mixed with some gillespie fun and the resultant brilliant album. heart felt lyrics, and brilliant rythms render this an all time amazement of an album, and one that no one should be without.
As with 'Blues it up' album, Dana gets to grips (!) with some more raucous-lyric'd ditties. She and the band are truly wonderful A former British junior water skiing champion from Surrey - who'd have believed it! Excellent - five star rated.
