7 dayshop rechargeable wireless bluetooth "cube" speaker
on 15 June 2013
I bought this after reading a lot of reviews and seeing a video on their site, I was initially not interested in a Bluetooth speaker as I didn't see the point. I just wanted a more compact unit.
However, I've got several mini speakers that connect via mini jacks, but some of my devices are hard to connect when in a protective case. Not to mention dropping things when attached to a cable! I'm very cautious of tiny speakers, as the sound can't be that good.
The device is really small, about 2 inches square (well cubed!), it's a micro speaker really. It has a rubber base so it won't slide around (good idea), and is made of plastic, with a matt rubberised paint for grip. It charges via a USB mini cable, which is supplied (not micro USB like most phones). Red light shows when charging and goes out when done. I've added a photo with a ruler, AA battery, shot glass, pound coin and SD memory card for scale.
Both my devices run on android 2.2 (froyo) and use Bluetooth 2.0, I had no problem pairing to it via Bluetooth to either device, and battery drain from Bluetooth is extremely low.
The sound quality is very good (music), it fills my flat on only 1/3rd volume from my tablet. It does not have the treble clarity or slightly deeper base of their metal round model, but it is lot louder, also it needs to be on a solid surface for best results. I'd also suggest playing with your devices graphic equalizer settings for the best results for your own preferences. Movie watching is a revelation, the sound is so much more enveloping of the screen, making the experience better. I used it outside in the wind and put the speaker 15 feet away, I could still hear it clearly and their was no sync problems with the screen.
As for runtime (second most important feature for me) it lasted 11 1/2 hours before it beeped to warn of low power! I was about to give up when it reached 10 hours, seriously good runtime from this device.
I was put off Bluetooth speakers due to the generally high price, this device was worth the risk for what it cost.
