TOP 100 REVIEWERVINE VOICEon 15 February 2013
The test of a live album is whether you are taken in by the atmosphere created as you cannot of course see the show. I thought the recording very good in that respect and you could feel the performance and the characters being played. The second album is her final studio Kapp album and contains some newer material. The voice is ideally suited to a wide range of material and this is all here. Loved her singing Here's That ainy Day & Black Coffee. I have not heard a great deal of Jane Morgan material but this has made me keen to hear more. A very good singer and a lovely tone. here are 2 bonus tracks so the CD is full of songs you will enjoy. I loved Fly Me to the Moon and her version of the oldie Count Every Star is most appealing too. excellent sound transfers and liner notes make this yet another brilliant Sepia album.

Always welcome are CD reissues by stylish diva, Jane Morgan, who's classy vocal style was apparently matched by her sophisticated dress sense. Both were obviously on show when she was recorded in cabaret during October 1961 at the famous nightclub situated within the now demolished Ambassador Hotel. The visual element may be missing but it's easy to use the imagination as Jane delivers the necessary glamour and high-gloss professionalism she honed in Parisian night spots during her early career. With orchestra under the direction of Dick Hazard, the singer favours medleys with themes dedicated to Paris and Lillian Russell (accompanied by duo John Drew and Sam Stoneburner) with her signature number, FASCINATION, opening and closing her act. In between, Jane offers delightful versions of the combined LOVE MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND/YOU AND THE NIGHT AND THE MUSIC plus THE SECOND TIME AROUND and her big hit THE DAY THE RAINS CAME.

The accompanying WHAT NOW MY LOVE, recorded as her final album for Kapp Records during 1962,had orchestral duties shared by Burt Bacharach (who was also the record producer) and Peter Matz. Apart from the title number, the Hilliard/Bacharach offering - WAITING FOR CHARLEY TO COME HOME and tear-jerking LOVE LOOK AWAY(from the recent Broadway hit FLOWER DRUM SONG), the choices highlight quality standards with I GUESS I'LL HANG MY TEARS OUT TO DRY, BLACK COFFEE, IT NEVER ENTERED MY MIND and HERE'S THAT RAINY DAY perfectly reflecting heartbreak and relative ongoing emotional turmoil, with Jane wringing every tearful nuance from the romance-gone-wrong lyrics. Personally, I consider it her finest album.

Two bonus songs:- FLY ME TO THE MOON with Latin lilt and the evocative COUNT EVERY STAR are welcome inclusions with remastering, notes and relevant dates ensuring listening enjoyment of this excellent release.

For Jane Morgan fans-a must! Jane at the Cocoanut Grove long time unavailable until now and the singles collection are a lovely reminder of times gone by.

Firstly, the uncomplementaly cover says it all. What Now My Love is rather dull, not because of Jane`s singing, but the unimaginative arrangements that all sound pretty much the same despite different orchestra leaders. At the Cocoanut Grove starts out fine, but I could have done without the Lillian Russell homage. Those wornout, dated songs annoy me. I suppose they were chosen so Jane could wear that smashing dress.
